MyLeftFoot |
||
| The MyLeftFoot series began in August 2008 on a trip to Brighton when I made a photo of my right foot on the street next to some double yellow lines. This image inspired the whole thing and since I always liked the title of the film My left Foot I switched from the right to the left foot. I did not instantly begin the daily snapping of MyLeftFoot then, this happened during the course of that year when I started to take these photos more often and noticed the surfaces beneath my feet more. Now I take a picture every day without fail and register the location of each image. You might think this is maybe slightly autistic but it serves as a diary for me and a way to comment on another passion of mine, sneakers. I have been tracing where my enjoyment of sneakers has come from and realized it is from childhood in England. When I was small at school Physical Education meant wearing standard black gym shoes with gum soles, everyone had the same, nothing fancy just practical. At a later stage in my school history this changed and kids all started to turn up for PE in all kinds of sneakers. My first memory of this was a friend getting Hi-Tech Silver Shadow II's and of course I wanted a pair, they looked super cool at the time. Alas, I ended up with a pair of Hi-Tech Strada's which did not have playground cool rating at all. As the years went by so did many other sneakers that had school cool like the Air Max 1 and Pegasus the Puma Gv, Adidas Lendl and the list goes on. At a certain point my sneaker ownership choices were delivered into my own hands. I bought many sneakers for skateboarding in; Converse, Diadora, Vans, Airwalk and many others practical for skating. Then one day for my mother's second marriage and wedding to Pete, I was given a sum of money to buy some shoes for the occasion, I bought a pair of bright blue Champion shoes that had more colour than the summer sky! My interest and desire was fully established and has never really stopped. Maybe halted due to finances but never stopped. And the story goes on ... |
