The California is a light weight version of the original GV shoe which was created for the Argentinian tennis star Guillermo Vilas during the 1970's. This new version of the GV was originally released in 1983 and replaced the typical all leather GV with a nylon mesh body combined with nubuck leather toe cap and heal. The classic thick rubber sole remained keeping the character of the GV alive. At some point during 2010 Puma released the mark 2 version of the GV with a thinner soul which looked terrible and should never have gone on sale.
In my opinion the California and the GV are the best looking shoe Puma has ever made, it ranks as my number 1 shoe of all time and i have quite a lot of different varieties of these in my possession, but there is always room for some more (hint to Puma). A foot has never looked so good.
